Sightseeing in Copenhagen
Walking tours
A good way to get to know the older parts of the city is by foot. This can be done in a short version in 2 hours. A walking tour of 3 hours is more comprehensive. By lengthening the tour to 4 hours it becomes possible to make a stop for Danish coffee and pastry, Danish beer, a special ice cream cone, or even a famous Danish sausage from the street wagons. In lieu of refreshments, it is possible to include a Canal Tour of the inner harbor and city waterways.
Driving tours
A base city tour of 3 hours by vehicle enables you to see the main sites of Copenhagen, including some stops to walk into Amalienborg square surrounded by the four palace buildings making up the winter royal residence, into the Royal Library Gardens and around the area of political power at Christiansborg Castle, into the Copenhagen Cathedral, and other things as time permits.
Royal tours
In conjunction with walking or driving tours, it is possible to make inside guided visits at Rosenborg Castle with the Crown Jewels of Denmark and/or at the Royal Reception Rooms with the Queen Margrethe Tapestries at Christiansborg Castle. About 1.5 hours is needed for each to allow for transport and entry/exit time.
Museums, etc., etc.
Many specialty museums and galleries of Copenhagen offer other extensions to the base tour. Or how about a visit to the Carlsberg Beer Brewery Visitor Center, or to the Absolute Vodka Ice Bar. And don’t forget Tivoli Gardens!
The Environs
Please see Sightseeing in Copenhagen environs and note that the fishing village of Dragør, as well as a short version of the North Zealand Castles tour, can be combined with an abbreviated Copenhagen city tour.
